May 2021 Newsletter

At the start of the year we set ourselves a pretty bold goal: to increase the number of children we support over a year from 2,000 to 3,000. So far this year we’ve supported 1003 kids – and we’re not even half way through the year, and November/December have traditionally been our biggest months leading into Christmas. Whilst it is awful to know that there’s that much local need, we are always motivated and inspired by this community who continues to support us with the local work we’re doing.

Last week was National Volunteer Week – a chance for us to reflect and thank the wonderful group of volunteers that make up We Care Connect. They are a caring, dedicated and passionate team who come together with our shared purpose – to fundamentally reverse the impact of childhood disadvantage throughout the Central Coast & Hunter.

The We Care volunteers are the beating heart of our team. From picking up donations from our drop off locations, sorting through items, packing bundles, organising fundraising events, our Board of Directors. Our volunteers are full of passion and compassion – for the local, vulnerable children that we are all here to support.

We genuinely can’t thank this incredible group enough. They share their time, their expertise, their sewing prowess and We Care could not exist without them. THANK YOU! Get in touch if you’re interested in hearing about our volunteer opportunities: www.wecareconnect.org.au/volunteer/

Our Mother’s Day High Tea raised close to $11,000!

Over 100 ladies joined us for our inaugural Mother’s Day High Tea fundraiser – and we would like to say the biggest thank you to everyone who supported this event. From the wonderful attendees who joined us and bought gifts from our Mother’s Day Stall and raffle tickets, to the fabulous businesses who supported us with raffle prizes and giveaways, our fantastic MC Sarah Forster from Star 104.5, magnificent music from from Must Twang Sally and Alan Hargreaves, balloons from Pop the Balloon Children’s Parties & Events, beautiful flowers from Rowsie Lane in Long Jetty, and lucky door prizes from Gritty Pretty, what a DAY!

All of these funds will go directly towards our goal to support 3,000 local disadvantaged children this year.  Everyone’s passion to make a difference for local children was so visible throughout the day. We really would love to say the biggest of THANK YOUs to this community who really is making the biggest difference to the children we support.
