December 2020 Newsletter
Just when we thought things might slow down a bit in December, in fact we’re helping more and more children than ever before.
November was officially We Care’s biggest month – we supported 102 families with over 200 children needing our help with everyday essentials. We really are starting to see the impact that CoVid-19 and unemployment is having on local families. In a bit of a turn around to previous years when we focused on birthday presents, this November and December we are busy collecting and preparing to help around 500 children with 800-900 presents so these children have something to open on Christmas Day. We’ve included a couple of ways you can help out below.
Christmas present collection – This Sunday!
We are around 200 presents short of our target. This Sunday 13th Dec, we have a Christmas present drop off in Charmhaven at the Lavender Goat Cafe from 9am – 11am (127 Pacific Highway, Charmhaven).
Bring down a present – and it will really make a difference to children who otherwise might not have a present to open.
Bring along the family, we will have a professional photographer there to take your family Christmas portrait as a fundraiser for We Care. For a $20 donation you’ll receive 2 digital images. 100% of the money raised will go towards supporting local disadvantaged kids. Watch this video to hear more.
Giving Tree Appeal
If you aren’t able to make the Christmas present collection and would still like to help out, we’ve set up a Giving Tree Appeal.
You can make an online donation to help us reach our goal to fill the stockings of local kids living below the poverty line.
An example of where your donation will go…
- $18 for a Girl, aged 6, wishing for a Doll
- $26 for a Girl, aged 14, wishing for a Soap Making Kit
- $35 for a Boy, aged 5, wishing for Batman Lego
- $69 for a Boy, aged 6, wishing for a Scooter
Christmas without a safe cot for a baby to sleep in, or a pram to get to the shops, let alone toys and gifts, is the reality for so many local families right now. Together, we can change that.
Why we care
The real heart-warming part of the huge need that we have experienced is the response of individuals in the community.
We have had family after family organizing new present collections through family and friends, children saving their pocket money or fundraising to buy presents for us, and businesses, schools and preschools arranging collections.
So it’s not just us who cares – the whole community cares!
Drop off locations – Closed over Christmas shutdown period
All of our drop off locations will be closed for donations over Christmas until January 18th, 2021 – our volunteers have seen enormous demand so they’re taking a well deserved, and much needed break.
From next week, drop off locations will ONLY be accepting new Christmas present donations – and until Wednesday 16th December (yes, this coming Wednesday – we need to get those presents out to families!).
2020 has been a year like no other. We continue to be overwhelmed by the wonderful generosity of the We Care community to help out through volunteering, donating items, or giving a cash contribution.
Thank you for everything you do. Wishing you and your families, a happy, safe and wonderful Christmas!
Warm regards,
The We Care Team
